After 25 years of performing as a double bass soloist accross the UK and beyond, I had to stop when health problems loomed. This was a huge regret to me as I seemed to have found my most successful format in a show I called "Slap and Tickle", a classical music version of cabaret. My performances for young children were proving equally successful, so it was all very sad. I had, meanwhile, become an ABRSM Examiner which I found interesting and challenging and the frequent trips abroad were good fun. After retirement I worked on my piano playing but when a friend suggested that I try playing the cello, I decided to have a go. Working on just the Bach Cello Suites, 3 of which I had played on the bass, rekindled in me the sense of challenge and excitement of years gone by. I had always wanted to perform all the Suites together and I had made several appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe with the double bass. So I decided to give it one more go and have been lucky to get a slot as part of the Just Festival at St Johns Church Princes Street. I shall perform the Suites in an unconventional format, travelling laterally as it were, through the movements, but also including a full performance of a complete Suite each day. Because it is the Fringe, I will play a short item on the musical saw at the end of each programme. I love playing the saw and expect that the acoustics of the church will add to its ethereal quality. youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/BronwenNaish
